Synchronous motors, AVR & protection relay upgrade

Scope:

Supply and commissioning of BE1-11m and DECS-250 for synchronous motors applications.

Description:

An alumina mine requested our services to upgrade 5 x 1,875kVA and 5 x 1,250kVA synchronous motors for their mills. The scope of supply included the protection relays and excitation systems. From an early stage we have been working with this client to get the drawings updated and determine protection settings. They took care of the installation and wiring, then we came on site to finalise the job together and to perform the commissioning.

Schedule:

Design: It took about 2 weeks to get the drawings and the settings finalised.

Installation: 2 to 3 days to install and connect the first of the new Basler DECS-250 AVR and Basler BE1-11m Motor Protection Relay.

Commissioning: 1.5 days were needed to finalise the commissioning of the new system.

Completion: The 2 first ones have been upgraded in October 2012 and January 2013. The remaining 3 systems will be upgraded at the next plant shutdowns.

The DECS-250 and BE1-11m were integrated into the existing panels:
