The analogue voltage regulator AVC110-6 is now obsolete. Fortunately we have several options for the replacement:
– Upgrade your system with a digital AVR type Basler Electric DECS100 which exceeds all AVC110-6 characteristics except the ones listed below:
- The maximum voltage output is 63Vdc (110Vdc for the AVC110-6). It is likely that your voltage is less than 50V but it is preferable to check your rated exciter field voltage. This information is sometimes hard to find so another solution is to check the rated excitation current (this should be a value less than 6A and probably on the generator or exciter nameplate). With this value, measure the resistance of the field winding and calculate the rated voltage (U=RI).
- Setpoint adjustment cannot be done by a potentiometer: it must be done using a +/-3V bias input or RAISE/LOWER dry contracts
- The DECS100 is larger, so you need to consider that for the install: the AVC110-6’s dimensions are H140x W124.8 x D48.5mm, the DECS100’s dimensions are H274.8 x W135.6 x D72.1mm.
- The DECS100 includes additional functions as: Soft start control, VAR/PF control, Over and under excitation limiter (OEL, UEL), Over voltage protection, Voltage matching, setup by PC via Software and once adjusted the settings can be pasted to other identical machines…
– In case the rated exciter field voltage is above 63V, the solution is the DECS200 which exceeds all AVC110-6 characteristics. There are a few considerations to be aware of:
- The DECS200 requires an auxiliary power supply 24/48Vdc or 120-125Vac/dc.
- The Setpoint adjustment cannot be done by a potentiometer: it must be done using a +/-10V bias input, a 4-20mA bias input or RAISE/LOWER dry contracts
- This AVR is bigger than the AVC and requires a bit more space for the install. The AVC110-6’s dimensions are H140x W124.8 x D48.5mm, the DECS200’s dimensions are H304.8, W205.2 x D185.9mm.
- The DECS200 includes additional functions as: HMI, Soft start control, VAR/PF control, Over & under excitation limiter (OEL, UEL), Over voltage protection, Voltage matching, setup by PC via Software, disturbance recorder and once adjusted the settings can be pasted to other identical machines…
